Getting around Pittsburg
Pittsburg has two BART stations on the yellow line (Antioch to SFO/Millbrae):
- Pittsburg/Bay Point, 1700 West Leland Road, with parking and Tri Delta Transit and Delta Breeze bus connections.
- Pittsburg Center, 2099 Railroad Avenue, served by Tri Delta Transit.
Trains between Pittsburg/Bay Point and Pittsburg Center connect through a transfer platform. By car, Highway 4 runs through the city, linking you west toward Concord and I-680 and east toward Antioch and Brentwood.
Homes and costs to know
Housing types. Pittsburg has older homes near Old Town and the waterfront, newer single-family neighborhoods, plus townhomes and condos. Because home ages range widely, condition is the big variable: roofs, foundations, sewer laterals and past remodels all deserve a close look. Most of the city is served by Pittsburg USD, and Mt. Diablo USD lists parts of Pittsburg in its boundaries, so confirm school assignment for a specific address with the district.
Transfer tax. The Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder charges a documentary transfer tax of $0.55 per $500 of value ($1.10 per $1,000). Pittsburg isn't on the Recorder's list of cities that add their own transfer tax (only Richmond and El Cerrito are), so you can expect the county tax only. Escrow confirms the final split.
First-time buyer help. Ask the City of Pittsburg's housing staff whether any local homebuyer programs are open, and check current availability. Statewide, CalHFA's MyHome Assistance Program offers a deferred-payment junior loan for down payment or closing costs to eligible first-time buyers who complete homebuyer education. See Karla's guide to first-time buyer programs and down payment help for more options.
ITIN buyers. If you file taxes with an ITIN, some lenders offer loans that may work for you. Read buying a home with an ITIN loan.
