Getting around Antioch
Antioch BART station, at 1600 Slatten Ranch Road, is the eastern end of BART's yellow line (Antioch to SFO/Millbrae). Trains between Antioch and Pittsburg/Bay Point connect through a transfer platform, and Tri Delta Transit buses serve the station. By car, Highway 4 is the main east-west route, and Highway 160 heads north toward the Antioch Bridge and the Delta. Test your commute at the time you'd actually travel.
Homes and costs to know
Housing types. Antioch offers a wide range of homes, from older houses near the historic downtown waterfront to newer single-family subdivisions, along with townhomes and condos. Ages and building styles vary a lot, so look closely at roofs, sewer lines, electrical panels and any additions. Antioch is served by Antioch USD; confirm school assignment for a specific address with the district.
Transfer tax. The Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder charges a documentary transfer tax of $0.55 per $500 of value ($1.10 per $1,000). Antioch isn't on the Recorder's list of cities with an extra city transfer tax (only Richmond and El Cerrito are), so expect the county tax only. Escrow confirms the final numbers.
First-time buyer help. The City of Antioch runs the Antioch Home Ownership Program (AHOP) with the Bay Area Affordable Homeownership Alliance (BAAHA), offering down payment and closing cost assistance to eligible first-time buyers; a 6-hour HUD homebuyer education course is required first. In May 2025, KTVU reported up to $60,000 through AHOP plus up to $40,000 more from partners. Statewide, CalHFA's MyHome program may also help. Check current availability before you count on any funds, and read Karla's guide to first-time buyer programs and down payment help.
Using an ITIN? Some lenders offer home loans for borrowers with an ITIN instead of a Social Security number. Start with buying a home with an ITIN loan.
